himouto! umaru-chan

A 2013-to-present seinen comedy manga by Sankakuhead, with a summer 2015 anime adaptation and fall 2017 season 2 anime by Doga Kobo. An alternative version of the manga was serialized for 2 chapters in 2012 before its current serialization.

The term himouto (干物妹) in the title is a merger of the term himono onna (干物女, "dried fish woman", referring to fish jerky junk food snacks that replace home-cooked meals) and the word imouto (妹, "younger sister"). Himono onna was coined by the manga Hotaru no Hikari, and refers to a young woman who leads a stable career but has little to no interest in romance and is generally reclusive, typically at home when not having to go out for her job. Her public and private lives are generally very different, with her public appearance being very clean, organized, and well-mannered. In contrast, her private appearance is messy, disorganized, and ill-mannered.
